Ash wood is tough, fairly hard and medium heavy. The splinter is white and wide, the core is greyish to brown. There is no difference in strength between split and heartwood. Therefore, the white splinter is most attractive for furniture, tools, etc. For bowing purposes, the play between the brown core and the white splinter is interesting.

The type of wood is suitable for turning handles and whipping techniques. The wood is strong, but cannot be used outdoors.
