Casting Tin - White Metal approx. 600 g

Casting Tin - White Metal approx. 600 g

White metal is a general term for a range of alloys typically composed of tin, antimony, copper, and sometimes zinc. These metals give the material a bright, silver-white appearance and make it suitable for applications where low friction and wear resistance are important properties.

Properties of White Metal

  • Soft and Ductile: White metal is relatively soft, making it suitable for bearings and slide bearings.

  • Low Friction: Reduces wear and heat generation in moving parts.

  • Corrosion Resistant: Tin-based white metals have good resistance to corrosion.

  • Good Thermal Conductivity: Effectively dissipates heat from mechanical components, extending their lifespan.

  • Melting Point: White metal has a melting point of approximately 242°C (468°F).

Applications

White metal is commonly used in:

  • Suitable for Casting: Its low melting point and good flow properties make white metal ideal for casting tin figures, miniature models, and decorative objects.

  • Bearings and Slide Bearings: Used in engines and industrial machinery to minimize wear.

  • Bushings: Suitable for components exposed to high loads.

  • Bearing Inserts in Ship Engines: Used in large engines to ensure durability.

  • Soldering and Coatings: Certain types of white metal are used for soldering or as surface coatings on other metals.

  • Casting of Tin Figures: Used for creating detailed figures and models due to its excellent malleability.

The composition of white metal can be adjusted depending on its application, but tin, copper, and antimony are the most common components when lead is excluded.

Supplied in square blocks of approximately 600 grams (1 square).
