Knife Handle - Purple Heart

Purple Heart, also known as Amaranth, grows in Central and South America. When the wood is first cut down, the color is grayish brown, but once exposed to sunlight, the tree becomes almost purple. With time, untreated wood can become brown with a hint of purple.

The wood is dense and hard, and can therefore be difficult to work with, but gives a good finish.Used for musical instruments, boatbuilding, furniture, etc.
