Suminagashi VG10 sandwich steel is an exclusive, multi-layer stainless steel ideal for knife making where both cutting performance and visual appeal are of utmost importance. The steel consists of a core of hard VG10 steel, surrounded by 33 layers of softer stainless steel on each side – a total of 67 layers. This provides the knife with a combination of high sharpness, strength, and impressive flexibility.

Features:

  • VG10 Core: High carbon and cobalt content ensures a hard and durable edge.

  • 66 Decorative Layers: Surround the core and provide both structural strength and a characteristic pattern.

  • High Aesthetic Value: The contrast between the layers of steel becomes clearly visible after grinding and can be highlighted through acid treatment or sandblasting.

  • Suitable for: Chef knives, kitchen knives, and handmade fixed-blade knives where both aesthetics and functionality are important.

Heat Treatment:

  • Hardening Temperature: 1050–1080 °C

  • Tempering Temperature: 150–200 °C

  • Typical Hardness: 59–61 HRC after proper heat treatment
