Used, for instance, for knife handle liners.

Tin is very soft and can therefore be easily formed into curved liners. Thus, it is not suitable for front or back bolsters, as it is easily scratched or dented.
Tin can be greasy and can get stuck in files, but this can be reduced by putting chalk on the file.

Over time, tin gets dull and grey, but is a good idea to polish or compress it, which results in a shiny surface.
