Weave a Christmas bread basket from willow and red paracord | Basket weaving

Weave a Christmas bread basket from willow and red paracord | Basket weaving

Beautiful Christmas basket for bread and more, made of paracord, rattan, and a wooden base

Weave a beautiful "Christmas-themed" breadbasket for your Christmas table in December. The basket is woven from rattan and red paracord on top of a wooden base with pre-drilled holes for the rattan poles. Thus, it is a project that is easy to start for beginners. The rattan poles must be soaked in warm water to become flexible enough for weaving the bread basket. Give your basket a fresh and colorful touch with paracord, a strong and flexible nylon cord. Here, red paracord is used to turn the breadbasket into a Christmas basket. The video guide is created by Isabel from Linå, who shows you all the processes to weave this bread basket. (Except for the crocheted red napkin at the bottom of the basket, which can be seen in the picture above).

You will learn to prepare both the wooden base and the rattan for basket weaving. You will also learn how the poles are attached to the base using the technique of open scalloped edge on the wooden base. When it comes to side weaving, Isabel shows how you first weave with rattan bases, then perform canvas tightening with paracord, and finally finish the side weaving with bases again. As the last step in the basket, she demonstrates how you weave a double cross-edge on the outside over 2 poles.

Techniques and skills:

  • Soaking of rattan
  • Weaving open scalloped edge
  • Weaving side weave base
  • Weaving side weave canvas tightening with paracord
